ABRASION RESISTANCE

An abrasion-resistant compound is designed to provide long life by withstanding wear caused by abrasive materials in conveyor belts. In work environments where abrasive materials are in constant motion, these compounds offer effective protection, reducing damage and improving business continuity. Due to their durability, they are ideal for industrial applications that require durable and robust solutions.

Typical Applications:

  • Mining sector: Transportation of minerals and abrasive materials.

  • Construction sector: Transportation of sand, gravel and building materials.

  • Chemical industries: Transporting materials that require mechanical strength and are not particularly abrasive but still require wear resistance.

The DIN reference for abrasion resistance in conveyor belts is generally related to DIN 22102, which covers the characteristics and requirements of rubber conveyor belts. However, the specific abrasion test is usually carried out according to other technical standards, such as DIN 53516 to determine the abrasion resistance of rubber.

In the test, the abrasion value measures the amount of material removed (mm3 ) from the rubber surface during exposure to an abrasive motion.

  • Higher values in the abrasion test indicate that more rubber was removed from the rubber surface during the test.

  • Lower values in the abrasion test, on the other hand, indicate that the rubber has experienced less wear and therefore has better abrasion resistance.
